Geographical area served by branch: Members are predominantly from the Leeds, Bradford & Wakefield area but we have members in many other parts of the country.

What we aim to offer our members -To provide sickness benefit, long-term savings, death benefit through Branch schemes, also Tax Exempt Savings Plans for children and adults.
We aim to provide prompt payment from Medical Accounts for medical bills etc, with full payment of these bills, depending on the amount in the members account.
We also pay interest on savings accounts to a level of 0.5% below the C.I.F. fund interest level.

Brief history of our branch The Branch was established in August 1857, the date comes from an 1880's balance sheet and it is believed that the Branch started in the Holbeck area as meetings were held in a public house in Jack Lane. The name of the Branch was probably named like many branches after an outstanding figure in history ie. Admiral Horatio Nelson of Trafalgar fame. In the 1940's and 50's meeting were very formal with committee members wearing regalia and an opening ceremony performed, new members had to appear before the committee to be read in, which detailed what was expected of him [no women were allowed at this time]. Meetings were generally held in public houses in the Holbeck and Beeston area. The Committee meetings were moved to Head Office when 25a Park Square was purchased, these meetings are very informal now and members can be made from birth of either gender, new members are usually arranged by visits to their homes and no longer need to go before the committee as in the past.
