Peter Darragh
Position: Deputy Chairman
Peter was co-opted onto the board in 2010. He was brought up in Belfast, moving across to England in the 90’s to study economics at Durham University. After graduation, he spent a few years working in the defence industry, before returning to Durham in 2001 to undertake a masters degree at Durham Business School. He felt that his skillset suited business consultancy, and, in particular, legal matters. Peter therefore moved to Yorkshire in 2004 to follow his career, and works for one of the largest law firms in the region as a commercial solicitor. He is married to Penny, who is also a solicitor, and lives in Leeds.
Members of Peter’s family have been involved with friendly societies for over 30 years, and he has vivid memories of his father teaching him the principles of return on investment using his policy! Peter has served on the committee of the Lily of the Valley Branch for a number of years, and is both honoured and excited to now be able to serve the society as a whole.
Peter’s other interests include church and charitable work. In particular he is a trustee, and chairs the finance committee of a large city-centre church.
